4-H Enrollment is Due April 15, 2012
4-H Enrollment for 4-H membership is due on April 15, 2012. Call the Ashtabula County Extension office at 440-576-9008 for more details. The activity fee for Ashtabula County 4-H members is $25 per member (with a maximum fee per family of $50). The activity fee is waived for all Cloverbuds and 1st Year 4-H Members.

Farm Estate Planning Workshop, 2011

As the age of farm operators increases, transferring the ownership and management of the family farm will become one of the most important issues farm families will face. This workshop has been designed to help farm families in Northeast Ohio plan for the transfer of their family farm. To help farm families plan for the future, OSU Extension will be hosting a Transferring Your Farm Business workshop on August 23, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the OSU Extension Office in Trumbull County located at 520 West Main Street in Cortland.

To help increase awareness and our ability to respond to entrapments, a special seminar will be offered later this month. This seminar will be held on Saturday, July 30 at W. I. Miller & Sons Farm located at 3389 Gardner Barclay Road in Farmdale, Ohio.

Economically vulnerable residents in Ashtabula County will benefit from a new OSU Extension and AmeriCorps program designed help struggling homeowners with our country’s mortgage crisis. The Ashtabula County Extension office is pleased to be selected as one of the host sites for two AmeriCorps volunteers who will provide community outreach and family-based coaching beginning in August 2012. The goal of the program is to help improve the long-term security of economically vulnerable homeowners in rural, Ohio.

Three Woodland Management Classes to be held in Northeast Ohio
Ashtabula County is blessed to have acres upon acres of woodlands which provide many benefits to landowners. Each year, OSU Extension in conjunction with the Ohio Woodland Stewards Program at Ohio State University offers workshops to help landowners increase their forestry management skills leading to better` informed management decisions and healthier forests. OSU Extension will be hosting three woodland programs in Northeast Ohio in the next few months. Each of these programs will feature OSU Extension Specialists from the Ohio Woodland Stewards Program.
