QUALITY ASSURANCE

Assuring Quality Care for Animals/ Quality Assurance Information

This program teaches 4-H youth how to use best practices that support the production of quality and safe animal products for consumers, as well as responsible animal handling, care and welfare in not only farm animal production, but also with companion and performance animals.

QA must still be completed by June 1.

  • FFA & 4-H Youth livestock exhibitors (8-18) may take the online Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) certification for $12. Visit  https://yqcaprogram.org/ and create an Independent Sign-In account. Be sure to select Web-Based Training and read the description of the course carefully to make sure the individual associated with the account meets the requirements based on age. Participants must pass 3 quizzes to get certified: Animal Well-Being, Food Safety and Life Skills. Be sure to print a copy of the certificate to a PDF and submit it to the Extension Office via email.
  • Youth 12-years of age and older may choose to test-out by visiting the Expo Building at the Fairgrounds May 16, 2024 5:30 p.m. Study materials may be found here. Please email hoyt.88@osu.edu to register in advance. Those that do not pass the test must attend an in-person or online training prior to June 1.
  • 2024 Quality Assurance Training will take place for Ashtabula County Youth in-person at the Fairgrounds in Jefferson May 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the Expo Building and April 20 8:00 -9:00 a.m. in the MAC Arena. No pre-registration is required for April 20 or May 16. Doors will open 10 minutes before the posted time and close 10 minutes after. Youth must be in attendance for the entirety of the program.  An Amazing Race QA Event will also take place in the morning May 18 at Camp Whitewood. Click here for details and to pre-register.
