QUALITY ASSURANCE
Assuring Quality Care for Animals/ Quality Assurance Information
This program teaches 4-H youth how to use best practices that support the production of quality and safe animal products for consumers, as well as responsible animal handling, care and welfare in not only farm animal production, but also with companion and performance animals.
QA must still be completed by June 1.
- FFA & 4-H Youth livestock exhibitors (8-18) may take the online Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) certification for $12. Visit https://yqcaprogram.org/ and create an Independent Sign-In account. Be sure to select Web-Based Training and read the description of the course carefully to make sure the individual associated with the account meets the requirements based on age. Participants must pass 3 quizzes to get certified: Animal Well-Being, Food Safety and Life Skills. Be sure to print a copy of the certificate to a PDF and submit it to the Extension Office via email to hoyt.88@osu.edu prior to June 1.
- Youth 12-years of age and older may elect to test-out on Thursday, May 21 at 5:30 p.m. and by pre-registering by NOON 5/18 to hoyt.88@osu.edu. Study materials may be found here. Pre-registration is required so materials will be available. Those that do not pass the test must attend an in-person or online training prior to June 1.
- 2026 Quality Assurance Training will take place for Ashtabula County Youth in-person at the Fairgrounds in Jefferson May 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the Expo Building and March 7 at the County Conference. No pre-registration is required. Doors will open 10 minutes before the posted time and close 10 minutes after.
- Other Opportunities (Details will be posted here when available.)
- Youth may complete Quality Assurance as a part of their AG class with Mr. Mazzaro or attend the session at P.V. High School in the spring.
- Amazing Race to Quality Assurance will be May 2 at Camp Whitewood.Email averill.10@osu.edu for details.
- Youth may attend an out of county event such as Beef Expo, OSU Poultry Day or attend in another county. It is their responsibility to provide verification of attendance and a certificate.
